• Art in The Atrium - 2027 Call for Art

Open to artists residing in Montgomery, Grimes, Harris, Liberty, San Jacinto, Walker and Waller Counties
  • The Atrium Center is seeking exhibitions and proposals for our 2027–2028 exhibition season. Art in the Atrium provides emerging artists the resources to realize an exhibition at The Atrium Center.

The exhibitions will be installed in designated areas for 365 days starting in January. Artists will receive exposure through the day-to-day business and events held at the venue throughout the year. Artist information will be posted with the art and on our website.

All painting mediums are allowed, including watercolor, pastel, oil, acrylic, mixed media and charcoal, as well as digital art (including photography) and outdoor sculpture. It is preferred that submitted artwork complements the color palette of the facility, but all entries will be considered. Artists may enter more than once. Artwork is selected for exhibition based on the number of entries, technical skill, quality of work and originality.

Any artist 16 years of age or older may submit one or more entries. All exhibition material must be appropriate for a business setting. Subject matter depicting obscene, sexually explicit or otherwise inappropriate content — including political, religious or racially demeaning subject matter — will not be accepted.

Artwork selection is made by a five-person committee. The director approves the final selection and placement to preserve the business decorum and primary use of the site. This year's exhibit will be curated by Alton DuLaney.

The deadline to submit artwork is October 31, 2026.

  • FRAMING:

    • Height plus width may not exceed 100-inches and weight must not exceed 30 pounds.
    • Must be framed and wired for hanging:
      • Ensure artwork is ready to hang by following these wiring instructions.
      • Choose the location for hanging hardware (about 1/3 down from the top of art piece). If it is too high, the wire will show above the top edge. If it is too low, balance will be off and the top can kick off the wall instead of hanging snuggly.
      • Attach the two D Ring picture hangers or eye screws. D rings go directly on the back of the artwork supports and eye screws go on the inner edge of the supports.
      • Thread and tie the wire through the hardware. Make sure the wire is neatly wrapped around itself on both sides with at least a 2-inch "tail" on each side of the artwork depending on the size and weight of piece.
      • Make sure wire isn't too tight or too loose.
      • Hang it on the wall to check that it was easy to hang and that the wire doesn't show.
    • Unframed work is accepted on heavy-duty stretcher bars with clean edges.
    • Unframed work on stretcher bars less than 3/4 of an inch will not be accepted.
    • Photography must be signed (front or back).

All exhibition material must be appropriate for a business setting. Subject matter depicting obscene, sexually explicit, social, political, religious, racially demeaning, or other subjects that are deemed inappropriate for a business setting will not be accepted.

The director must approve all displays and materials to be exhibited and will have the final say on whether to move forward. Artists will be responsible for all expenses related to their exhibitions, including but not limited to, procurement of art, framing and presentation, delivery and removal from the venue, installation, and removal, displays as required, maintenance and cleaning of displays, and any other expense related to the exhibition.
